ERGONOMICS
RESEARCH GRANT
ANNOUNCEMENT
Applications for the new ESGE–PENTAX Medical Ergonomics Research Grant will open on September 8, 2026.
Endoscopy-related musculoskeletal injuries are an important occupational concern for gastrointestinal endoscopists and the wider endoscopy workforce.
The ESGE–PENTAX Medical Ergonomics Research Grant supports independent scientific research aimed at improving the understanding, measurement and prevention of ergonomic risks in gastrointestinal endoscopy. The initiative seeks to support original, methodologically robust and feasible research that contributes to safer and more sustainable endoscopic practice.
SCOPE
OF THE GRANT
Applications should address one or more of the following areas:
- biomechanics and kinesiology;
- preventive interventions for endoscopy-related musculoskeletal injuries;
- ergonomics training and education; and
- cost and impact studies
Prospective, intervention-based, multidisciplinary and proof-of-concept studies are particularly encouraged.
Purely descriptive surveys without a novel research question, objective ergonomic assessment or clear pathway towards an intervention will not be prioritised.
Applications will be assessed according to their scientific originality and relevance, methodological quality, feasibility and value for money.
GRANT VALUE
One ESGE–PENTAX Medical Ergonomics Research Grant of €8,000 will be awarded to support one project. The scientific evaluation, ranking and final selection of the successful project will be the sole responsibility of ESGE.
