This International Course is focused to the Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)technique and combines clinical and hands-on activity. Four top ESD experts coming from Japan and the rest of the world will participate as guest faculty. They will share their vision on this technique as an essential tool for the management of early gastrointestinal tract neoplasias and will also tutor the participants’ hands-on activity in animal models. The structure of the course through two full days will include: 1.Lectures given by Japanese experts related to ESD technique going through its indications, pros&cons, technical tips for its practice and update on the training process. Each lecture will be followed by a discussion time to enable interaction between participants and experts.2.Clinical seminars run by experts. Several topics related to endoscopic diagnosis, therapeutic algorithm or complications management will be addressed during the seminars. These issues will be supported by brief lectures by experts and real cases presentations, allowing participants to review the most recent evidence on the technique in a very interactive and dynamic way.3. Live ESD cases performed by Experts. An estimated number of 8to 16live cases will be performed by the guest faculties. Experts will go through the endoscopic diagnosis of the gastrointestinal tract neoplasias and following treatment by ESD technique if indicated. Real cases will be first introduced to trainees and faculty to confirm the endoscopic diagnosis and reassure indication for ESD. Two operating rooms will work in parallel with one expert running each room and 4-5 participants attending the procedure. During live performances experts will give tips on endoscopic diagnosis and ESD technique. Q&A and direct interaction between experts and participants will be permitted during live procedures.4.A hands-on activity in animal models. 3stations with live piglets will be set every day. Each of them will be run by one different expert. 3 participants will be allocated in each station allowing them to perform gastric and esophageal ESD procedures under the faculties ́ direct supervision and guidance. Participants will keep swapping through the different stations during the working day.
Event aims
The Course aims to offer Western endoscopists a reliable vision of the real practice of Japanese and top world experts concerning the diagnosis of early gastrointestinal tract neoplasias and the use of ESD technique for its management. Through two pre-established lectures and also supported by several clinical seminars and the continuous interaction between experts and participants in the operating rooms, the trainees will learn most key points in the endoscopic assessment and theESDtechniqueperformance for the management of these lesions. This real-time approach to the standard practice of the experts will help participants to acquire several skills that can noticeably improve their clinical practice. In addition, the hands-on stage under experts direct tutoring appears as an essential opportunity for participants to assimilate all the tips received and also develop their skills in the ESD technique following advice of the experts.
