Individual Member representation on the ESGE Governing Board
The European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) is dedicated to the advance of skilled endoscopic practice through workshops, publication of guidelines, and research. It represents national societies of endoscopy in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa with one society from any of these countries eligible for membership. As of 2016, two ESGE Individual Members are elected by ESGE Individual Members to serve on the ESGE Governing Board for a term of two years.

ESGE Statutes, article II, section 1: Individual membership
Physicians with formal training (or trainees) in gastrointestinal endoscopy are eligible for individual membership (hereinafter “Individual Membership” or “Individual Members”).

Only Individual Members are eligible to serve on the Governing Board.
ESGE Statutes, article II, section 4
Two Individual Members shall be nominated and elected by ESGE’s Individual Members to serve as Councillors on the ESGE Governing Board each for one term of two years, if positions are available. They are eligible for re-election by the Individual Members for a maximum of one further term. Individual Membership Councillors are eligible for election to the Executive committee
ESGE statutes, article II, Section 5: Appointment Limitations
At any one time, only one Member Society representative from any given country may serve on the Governing Board, whether as Executive member or as Councillor. The two Individual Members serving as Individual Members Councillors and/or as members of the Executive Committee are exempt from this rule
Eligibility for election on ESGE Governing Board
ESGE Individual Members may nominate a fellow ESGE Individual Member or put themselves forward for nomination. Only members who have paid their annual dues may be considered. Those with trainee status are not eligible to become ESGE Individual Members councillor.
Role of the Individual Member on ESGE Governing Board
As a voting member of the ESGE Governing Board, the Individual Members councillor is involved in the decision making process of ESGE Governing Board.
Candidature of active, dedicated persons from the younger generation is encouraged. It is important to be capable and willing to spend a substantial amount of time for this position.
He/she is required to attend three ESGE Governing Board meetings (virtual or face to face) per year, and participate in regular web-based calls. Attendance is also required at the annual ESGE General Assembly.
Term of office
The term for this position starts at the ESGE General Assembly at ESGE Days and ends after two years, terminating at the ESGE General assembly. Should the Individual Members councillor be re-elected, his/her term may be extended for a maximum of a further two years.
