Criteria for selection of topics for guideline development:

- Burden of disease,
- Existence of variation in practice,
- Potential to improve outcome (effective treatment is proven and mortality or morbidity can be reduced),
- Avoid duplicate work (work in progress at other societies),
- Existing extent of evidence on which to base the guideline,
- Interest for publication in Endoscopy journal.
