Complications of percutaneous gastrostomy (PEG) and jejunostomy (PEJ).An overview.

 

PEG is the technique relatively safe and well established for long time nutrition in contrast to PEJ, which is not widely accepted due to tube kinking, clogging and displacement.

 

Placement problems :

Placement problems occur in 17 % of cases.


Infection :

- severe wound infections rare
- peristomal infections 7.3 %


Tube migration :

Tube migration, leakage and peristomal infections occur in 30 % of cases.

 

Gastric perforation
